Meet City Council Candidates with Global Philadelphia Association

A free event for Global Philadelphia members to get to know the candidates for the upcoming city council nomination. Each candidate will be given a few moments to speak to the audience about their campaign. The goal of this event is to specifically engage with the international sector of the voters. Special attention will be given to topics of global awareness in Philadelphia, with an emphasis on the ways in which candidates would leverage Philadelphia's World Heritage City Status to best position our region on the world stage. 
 
Designed to encourage Philadelphia’s city council candidates to think globally as they prepare for their time in office, Global Philadelphia will give the candidates the opportunity to address the international audience and share their vision for a global city.
 

The event is co-chaired by Harold Yaffee, Board member at Global Philadelphia Assoc., and former Mayor Michael Nutter – with special guest Denise Nakano, of KYW Newsradio, as the emcee for the evening. Please join us for this one-of-a-kind event. Our event is complimentary to attend, but registration is required. Invitation is non-transferable.

More about Mayor Nutter:

Michael A. Nutter is a former two-term mayor of Philadelphia who previously spent nearly 15 years in the Philadelphia City Council. Since leaving public office in 2016, he has remained active in public policy, government, and civic life. He is the inaugural David N. Dinkins Professor of Professional Practice in Urban and Public Affairs at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and holds fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago, and Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics.

 

About Denise Nakano:

Denise Nakano is a Philadelphia area journalist, with decades of experience as a television and radio broadcaster. She currently is the Midday Anchor at KYW News Radio. Denise has been recognized with a national Edward R. Murrow Award for best documentary and with 8 national and regional Emmy Awards for breaking news, investigative reporting and for her coverage of the local heroin epidemic. She has also been honored by the City of Philadelphia with a proclamation recognizing her reporting on the heroin crisis in Philadelphia. Nakano is an active member of and previous national board representative of the Asian American Journalists Association. Nakano worked in radio prior to her 24 years in television news, getting her start in college at the NPR station located on the campus of her alma mater, the University of the Pacific.
