Philadelphia’s Nationalities Service Center (NSC) announced on February 14 that Steven Larin, Esq., will be the agency’s new Deputy Director, in which he’ll serve as its top Diversity, Equity and Inclusion officer. In this role, Larin will have the opportunity to expand NSC’s policy and advocacy initiatives on the Philadelphia, state and national levels.

Comcast NBCUniversal hosted its 2019 Demo Day on October 10th, in celebration of their second annual LIFT Labs Accelerator program. Powered by Techstars, the event provided an opportunity for representatives from the program’s spotlighted companies to pitch their businesses to pioneers within Philadelphia’s investment, technology, and startup communities. 
Liberia defended its Philadelphia International Unity Cup Champions title in a 3-0 victory against the United States during the final round of the tournament, hosted on October 12 at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester. As part of the 2019 GlobalPhilly Expo, the tournament celebrated Philadelphia’s diversity over the past three months by providing an opportunity for local soccer fanatics and athletes representing 52 countries to participate in a World Cup-style competition. 
Global Philadelphia Association (GPA) partnered with the School District of Philadelphia and History Making Productions to host the “Migration, Immigration, and Transformation” professional development workshop for local educators on September 17, as part of the ongoing 2019 GlobalPhilly Expo. The workshop spotlighted the immigration of people coming to Philadelphia and the way this has impacted the city’s social, political, and economic structure. 
Campus Philly hosted their annual College Fest on September 7, 2019 at Dilworth Park. As part of the 2019 Global Philly Expo, the event provided local students with an opportunity to meet an array of Philadelphia’s business leaders as they flocked back to the city for the start of the fall semester. Over 6,000 college students attended the event alongside over 45 exhibitors, including IKEA, GoPuff, Bank of America, Lyft, Chegg, and many more.
American INSIGHT hosted its 2019 Free Speech Award Ceremony on September 22 to honor this year’s recipient, Hollywood Director Robert Greenwald, for his latest documentary, Suppressed: The Fight to Vote. The event was hosted at Cliveden of the National Trust, a historic mansion in Germantown that traces its roots back to the American Revolutionary War.

Home to many sites of historical interest, I recently had the opportunity to spend a day visiting Verona, Italy. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Verona offers a modern interpretation of the ancient traditions that formed the cornerstone of Italian culture. For example, I loved watching the crowds gather around the restaurants and vendors of the Piazza delle Erbe. As they stood waiting, visitors had the chance to take in the remains of the ornate frescoes that lined the walls of the ruling Scaligeri family’s houses during the Middle Ages.
With over 400,000 rare books, manuscripts, and art objects, the Rosenbach Museum contains the treasured collections of Philip Rosenbach and his younger brother A. S. W. Rosenbach. Following his brother’s death in 1953, the younger Rosenbach created the space in 1954 as a way to share both of their personal book and manuscript collections, as well as their knowledge, with the public.
