From casual to couture, the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator has ingrained an international fashion consciousness within the cultural fabric swathing Philadelphia. Now in its eighth year, the Incubator’s newest batch of designers have found their niche on the runway by seeking to maximize the accessibility of fashion itself. 

The Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia, a Global Philadelphia Association (GPA) member, will host the full-year JapanPhilly2020 initiative, which will celebrate Japanese art, business and cultural activities and build excitement for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. 

As Global Philadelphia Association (GPA) celebrates Philadelphia’s medical heritage through the 2019 GlobalPhilly Expo, it’s important to spotlight the medical institutions that have formed the backbone of the city’s progressive innovation. One of the best ways to celebrate this history is to tour the Weaver Historical Dental Museum at Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry. 

375 has never looked so good! Independence National Historical Park and Independence Historical Trust celebrated the 375th birthday of William Penn, Philadelphia’s founder, on October 14th by revitalizing his spirit within the city’s most famous historical sites.  

Liberia defended its Philadelphia International Unity Cup Champions title in a 3-0 victory against the United States during the final round of the tournament, hosted on October 12 at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester. As part of the 2019 GlobalPhilly Expo, the tournament celebrated Philadelphia’s diversity over the past three months by providing an opportunity for local soccer fanatics and athletes representing 52 countries to participate in a World Cup-style competition. 

Campus Philly hosted their annual College Fest on September 7, 2019 at Dilworth Park. As part of the 2019 Global Philly Expo, the event provided local students with an opportunity to meet an array of Philadelphia’s business leaders as they flocked back to the city for the start of the fall semester. Over 6,000 college students attended the event alongside over 45 exhibitors, including IKEA, GoPuff, Bank of America, Lyft, Chegg, and many more.

The International House Philadelphia hosted their 14th Sanctuary Supper on the evening of September 10 to raise awareness and funds for the African Family Health Organization (AFAHO).

Philadelphia, with its majority-minority population, is one of the most diverse cities in the country. Its numerous immigrant populations hail from the farthest reaches of the world. New populations contribute socially, culturally and economically to the vibrancy of our city, and the City of Philadelphia has been eager to acknowledge their contributions through the Philadelphia Honors Diversity Flag Raising Program.

Home to many sites of historical interest, I recently had the opportunity to spend a day visiting Verona, Italy. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Verona offers a modern interpretation of the ancient traditions that formed the cornerstone of Italian culture. For example, I loved watching the crowds gather around the restaurants and vendors of the Piazza delle Erbe. As they stood waiting, visitors had the chance to take in the remains of the ornate frescoes that lined the walls of the ruling Scaligeri family’s houses during the Middle Ages.
