Building on our original content expertise, we began our Emerging International Journalists Program for undergraduate & graduate students from local and recent graduates from local universities to tell the stories of the global work done by our Members, have meaningful conversations with regional leaders, and write their unique perspective about trips to world heritage sites across the world made possible through our OWHC connections. 
 
The program acts as a dynamic training ground and platform for new voices on international topics connected to the Philadelphia region.

 By Grace Hackney "Philadelphia: City of Homes” by David S. Traub features every unique element that makes up Philadelphian home architecture. This book showcases every neighborhood in Philadelphia in the best ways possible. When it comes to the city of Philadelphia, I find that some people tend to criticize certain aspects of our city rather than focusing on the beautiful elements of our city. Traub does a great job of showcasing the pleasantries that make every Philadelphia neighborhood remarkable. 
Recent Vandalism at Shofuso – JASGP

A Conversation with 2022 Pew Scholar, Dr. Amelia Escolano
By Emily Brooks Dr. Amelia Escolano, an Assistant Professor at The Wistar Institute’s Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center, has been chosen to join the 2022 Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences for her groundbreaking research on HIV vaccines. This highly competitive honor not only provides Escolano with funding to pursue her research, but it also provides her the opportunity to work with other highly talented researchers at an annual Pew Scholars conference. 
Japanese Fashion Takes on Philly at the Sakura Collection Fashion Design Awards
By Gary Wooten Philadelphia hosted the first Sakura Collection Fashion Design Awards in North America on July 6. Beginning in 2012, the Sakura Collection has hosted fashion design competitions around the world to challenge young artists to create designs using traditional Japanese textiles. This year, the designers used Enshu Men Tsumugi, a rare, hand-made fabric, to construct their pieces to feature in the Sakura Collective Grand Prix at the Iron Gate Theater. 
SDG #16 Unveiled at Project HOME Women of Change
By Yesh Khanna As a part of its Sustainable Development Goals Campaign, the Global Philadelphia Association, along with The Harry and Catherine Halloran Family Foundation, unveiled an exquisite piece of public artwork celebrating the United Nations’ SDG #16 - Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. The artwork featuring Thurgood Marshall - the U.S. Supreme Court's first African American justice - was created by Russell Craig, a self-taught Philadelphia-based artist.

OWHC Offering Third Annual Travelling Scholarship
By Yesh Khanna After two highly successful runs in 2018 and 2019, the Organization of World Heritage Cities is back with its “Young Traveling Scholarship” program. Aimed specifically at young adults between the ages of 18 and 28 years, the 1,000-euro scholarship enables selected participants to explore UNESCO’s World Heritage Cities in North America and Europe and document their firsthand experience to explain why their heritage needs to be preserved.

Day in the Life: Collecting Artifacts for the West Chester Exposition with Aaron Stoyack
By Aaron Stoyack On April 11, my professor, Dr. Di Giovine, and I picked up artifacts from lenders in Philadelphia. Giovine is the Director of the Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology and is teaching a course in which students curate a museum exhibition. This year’s exhibition is “Beyond the Bell: Philadelphia’s Many Heritages.” With the help of GPA, the museum is connecting with diverse communities to tell the story of the mosaic of cultures within the Philadelphia region.
