This year will be the first virtual Solas Awards and while it will be different from past events, we are excited to be able to welcome everyone to join us in experiencing The Welcoming Center. During Solas 2021, you will have the opportunity to virtually network with others in The Welcoming Center community, learn more about the impact your support has on immigrants in Philadelphia, and watch a live conversation with our 2021 Solas Award honoree, Dr. José Ramón Fernández-Peña hosted by our friend and former colleague, Amanda Bergson-Shilcock.

On August 19, we’re bringing the islands to you! Join us for the 32nd Annual Philadelphia Caribbean Festival for a day full of island culture.

GIC’s African Business Roundtable, held in collaboration with the Annual ODUNDE Festival, will take place on Friday, June 8, 2018. This annual event is free, but registration is required.

Confirmed speakers include Ambassadors of Ghana, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia as well as the Convening Founder and Head of Mission of the (AU) African Diaspora Forum.

Encounter ancient ruins, sacred mosques, endless desert and storied mountains, imposing kasbahs and spirited souks. Travel from the imperial cities of Rabat, Fez, and Marrakech to the High Atlas and vast Sahara. Erfoud, Ouarzazate, and Casablanca are also included on the itinerary.  Our knowledgeable guide takes us to not one, but five UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Highlights include substantive briefings, a private dinner in the traditional home of a Fez family and tea with a Berber family in their cave dwelling.  

The Welcome Reception introduces international students and scholars to the Philadelphia area and to the rich network of global communities and resources in the region. The event is provided free of charge to international students and scholars from universities in the Delaware Valley region, featuring live multicultural performances and cuisine.
