With "MAYA 2012: Lords of Time"—a world premiere exhibition opening May 5th—the Penn Museum confronts the current fascination with the year 2012, comparing predictions of a world-transforming apocalypse with their supposed origins in the ancient Maya civilization. "MAYA 2012" leads visitors on a journey through the Maya’s time-ordered universe, expressed through their intricate calendar systems, and the power wielded by their divine kings, the astounding “lords of time.” Visitors explore the Maya world through a range of interactive experiences and walk among sculptures and full-sized replicas of major monuments while uncovering the truth behind these apocalyptic predictions. Tickets Go On Sale February 1st. The exhibition runs through January 13th, 2013.

On January 24, the Philadelphia Union and Major League Soccer (MLS) announced that Philadelphia will be the host city for the 2012 AT&T MLS All-Star Game. The annual showcase event will feature three days of festivities, culminating in a match between the League’s top players and a renowned international club on July 25 at Chester, PA’s PPL Park, home of the Philadelphia Union and its boisterous supporters, the Sons of Ben.

This year's cohort of distinguished Eisenhower Fellows features three remarkable Philadelphians: Nikki Johnson-Huston, Assistant City Solicitor ∙ City of Philadelphia Law Department; Andrew Stoberm, Chief of Staff Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities; and Wendell E. Linda Loyd, Philadelphia Inquirer -- Virgin America Inc., California's hip and high-tech airline with seat-back touch-screen TVs, wireless Internet, and mood lighting, will begin nonstop flights from Philadelphia to California in April. Virgin America, which launched in 2007, is the first new airline to start service at Philadelphia Interantional Airport in nearly eight years.

On January 12, 2012 Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter announced the city’s first-ever coordinated and sustained visual arts marketing campaign called With Art Philadelphia™. The $2 million, two-year campaign aims to: position Philadelphia among the world’s great art destinations; draw more and new audiences; and generate overnight stays from visitors worldwide. With Art Philadelphia will launch in March 2012, just prior to the opening of the Barnes Foundation’s Philadelphia campus on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in May.

Leslie Guevarra, -- Philadelphia, Oakland and six other U.S. cities will get free help this coming year from sustainable building and development experts who'll take a fresh look at the towns through a green lens. The consultations are being provided by the sustainability-focused nonprofit Global Green USA through funding from the U.S Environmental Protection Agency's Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities Program.
