Elise Vider of Flying Kite Media reports that the tourism and marketing efforts of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PCVB) have helped make Philadelphia the 13th most internationally visited city in the United States. In 2010, estimates say 633,000 visitors traveled to Philadelphia from overseas, a seven percent increase from 2009.

On March 29, 2012 the Project for Nuclear Awareness (PNA) will present the John C. & Chara C. Haas Award for International Peace and Social Justice to Helen Caldicott, MD founding president of Physicians for Social Responsibility and a Nobel Peace Prize co-recipient. In honor of PNA Chairman and Co-Founder Dr. Craig Eisendrath–a former U.S. Foreign Service Officer who continues to dedicate his work to a nuclear weapons-free world–PNA will present the First Annual Eisendrath Award for Youth Advocacy in Nuclear Disarmament to a qualified student and/or youth. The University City Science Center’s Port Business Incubator has opened a new co-working office space for emerging startup companies called the Bullpen. The new space, which offers entrepreneurs a desk, phone and high speed Wi-Fi, is located on the Science Center campus at 3711 Market Street in Philadelphia. Belgium-based Biologistics Consulting is the first company to call the Bullpen home.

The University of Pennsylvania Center for East Asian Studies is pleased to announce that it will offer the 12th year in the Phila-Nipponica Project, a series that has helped over one hundred teachers in the Greater Philadelphia area enhance their classroom teaching about Japan and Asia through seminars, summer study tours, and curriculum development assistance devoted to Japan.
