2016 Global Ideas Summit and Annual Globy Awards

 

2016 Globy Awards once again brings out the Who’s Who in International Business to Honor Some of the Greatest Contributors to our Great World Heritage City!

The Independence Visitor’s Center was buzzing with members of the Philadelphia’s international community who came out on Monday December 12th to honor those individuals who have made an impact in our World Heritage City – Philadelphia!

Julie Coker Graham, President of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau opened the event with an eye opening review of the state of Philadelphia’s tourism and conventions. With the recent high profile events including the Pope’s Visit, The Democratic National Convention and the upcoming NFL Draft, Philadelphia has maintained a major national profile. And with our World Heritage City designation – we are now on the international radar!

The 2016 Globy Awardees included:

  • Lifetime Achievement: David B. Brownlee, Ph.D., FSAH, University of Pennsylvania Professor of History of Art – award to be presented by former Deputy Mayor Alan Greenberger

  • Corporate Leadership: Robert J. McNeill, Jr., Managing Partner of Deloitte LLP in Greater Philadelphia – award to be presented by City of Philadelphia Director of Commerce Harold T. Epps

  • Community Leadership: Carol S. Wong, Director of the Chinatown Learning Center - presented by Omar Woodard, Executive Director of the Philadelphia office of the GreenLight Fund

  • Educational Leadership: Dr. William R. Hite, Jr., Superintendent, The School District of Philadelphia

“These four award winners have provided distinguished service to our increasingly global city,” said Global Philadelphia Association Board Chair John F. Smith, III. “They have not only accomplished great things for Philadelphia, but have set examples for the rest us to follow. We are honored to be able to honor each of them with a Globy, the Association’s most significant award.”

 

Zabeth Teelucksingh, Executive Director, Global Philadelphia Association reminded attendees that the Philadelphia World Heritage Seal was developed for all Philadelphians to use in all communications! The seal is currently being used by various organizations including Where Magazine, Penn Museum, The World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia and Alliance Francaise de Philadelphie. Get the seal here and start using it today!
