Global Context
Progress towards achieving SDG8 has been slow and faces significant challenges due to the lingering effects of COVID-19, trade tensions, economic uncertainties, and rising debts in developing countries. Global economic growth is forecasted to slow down, posing risks to employment, income, equitable pay for women, and decent work for young people.
Achieving SDG8 requires comprehensive financial system reform to address rising debts, uncertainties, and trade tensions while promoting equitable pay and decent work for the youth. Challenges persist with informal employment and the gender pay gap, and rates of child labor and NEET (not in education, employment, or training) are far from the 2030 targets.
On a positive note, tourism's economic contribution is showing signs of recovery, and the accelerated adoption of digital solutions is transforming access to finance, offering some hope for progress.
