The Philadelphia Film Society launches Saturday Morning Specials, a family-friendly and low-priced indie screening series held monthly at the PFS Theater at the Roxy in Rittenhouse Square.

The Ibrahim Theater at the International House of Philadelphia will host a viewing of Lionel Rogosin's 1959 powerful, political film Come Back, Africa. After witnessing firsthand the terrors of fascisim as a soldier in World War II, Rogosin vowed to fight against it wherever and whenever he saw it reemerging. In an effort to expose "what people try to avoid seeing," he travelled to South Africa and Secretly filmed Come Back, Africa, which revealed the cruelty and injustice suffered by black and colored poples under apartheid. $9 General Admission, $7 Senior / Student, FREE for IHP Members

The Lantern Theater Company will begin performing The Island, one of the most widely and internationally acclaimed plays during the last decades of the twentieth century that began its theatrical life in 1973 with secret performances held in apartheid-era South Africa, on May 17th, 2012 at St. Stephen's Theater. The Island is Robben Island, South Africa's notorious prison, where John and Winston are political prisoners and cellmates. After absurdly grueling days laboring under the sun, they return to their dark cell to rehearse a makeshift performance of Sophocles' play Antigone. The Island is written by Tony Award-winners Athol Fugard, John Kani, and Winston Ntshona and directed by Peter DeLaurier.
