On August 19, we’re bringing the islands to you! Join us for the 32nd Annual Philadelphia Caribbean Festival for a day full of island culture.

A unique, interactive chamber music experience with members of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Performed in the round, a host will provide background and insight on each work and lead conversations with the musicians between pieces. The performance concludes with a casual audience Q&A.

Our Youth Arts Workshop students spent this summer exploring the theme of portraiture and creating artwork using various media, such as drawing, sculpture, photography, and public engagement, and learn to talk about identity, stereotypes, and visibility. An evening of live performance, audience participation, and discussion focuses on Shakespeare as a global phenomenon, whose plays are continually adapted and re-imagined for contexts far removed from Renaissance England. Dennis Austin Britton, assistant professor of English at the University of New Hampshire, leads the discussion.

To the melodic tones of standing drums, with dramatic choreography, bright, layered rhythms, and gorgeous call-and-response vocals, Spirit of Uganda return to the Annenberg Center, bringing to life the sounds and movements of East Africa. Ambassadors for Uganda’s 2.4 million orphans, the company’s 22 vibrant performers, ages 8-18, personify the resilience and promise of Africa’s next generation as they promote awareness of Uganda’s dual crises—AIDS and civil war—and raise funds to support their homeland. 

The Philadelphia Dance Company celebrates its rich Philadelphia relationships and infuses high-spirited movement with passion, color, and theatrics. This exuberant program features Tribute, a full-company piece celebrating the soulful sounds of Philadelphia International Records, and Wake Up, a new dance by Rennie Harris that explores the birth and evolution of Hip Hop. Between the April 20th and 22nd, the Kimmel Center will be hosting 4 performances by PHILADANCO in their Perelman Theater.
