Guided Search: Exchange Programs, Asia

After travelling dozens of hours and thousands of miles we arrived in Bangalore to the hustle and bustle of early morning rush hour; we witnessed families starting their days as Sabhir, our driver, weaved in and out of traffic on our way to Wayanad. The next day, the four of us stepped foot in Prashanthagiri, and the beautiful rural community seemed like a world away from the busy city. We were eager to learn about this new culture and to grow as engineering students through our work with biogas and water quality, but we never could have anticipated bonding so profoundly with the community members of Prashanthagiri.

Gathered at the Independence Visitor Center on an afternoon in early October, a group of around 50 students and teachers from the People's Republic of China took part in a Q & A with some of Philadelphia's most prominent representatives of law, the city's historical legacy, and authorities on global sustainability. The Q & A session was only a piece of a much broader cultural exchange led by the China Partnership of Greater Philadelphia. 

Learn how you can follow Drexel's OIP as they tour China and provide educational programming alongside the Philadelphia Orchestra. A delegation of Drexel representatives, led by President John Fry, Provost Mark Greenberg and Vice Provost Julie Mostov will travel with the orchestra to Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai participating in educational programming, community outreach and student engagement. Drexel University and the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI), Chinese Academy of Sciences have signed a collaboration agreement that will bring together researchers from the two institutions for pioneering work in scientific and technological innovation.
