A project of the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia, the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual celebration not only of spring and beautiful blossoms, but of Japanese culture as well.  Each year, over the course of a few weeks, a wide variety of events are planned.

This week’s preschool programming highlights the story of Momotaro, a little boy born from a peach. Momotaro is a very sleepy baby, but he quickly grows strong and embarks on a big adventure to conquer a band of wicked ogres. Kids love the animals Momotaro befriends along the way.

Explore your creativity as a family in this week’s adult/child workshop. Education Coordinator Nicole explains the history and art that go into this traditional Japanese book binding technique.

Throw some action into the mix with this week’s youth workshop! Preteens will spend the early afternoon learning about Menko, a uniquely Japanese card game, making their own deck, and playing against others. Menko cards typically depict popular icons of the time.
