Born and raised in Philadelphia, Carl Cherkin has enjoyed long running success in sports, broadcasting, marketing and public relations. He is currently the Vice President of Business Relations and Business Development with Philadelphia Union, of Major League Soccer, where he has been on staff from the very beginning.

Mr. Cherkin has enjoyed a career of accomplishment marked by a strong commitment to public service. Carl’s breadth and blend of experiences gained on the local, national and international level, combine to produce an executive uniquely qualified to advocate and communicate to the corporate community, media and public with equal dexterity and impact.

In his 20-year broadcasting career, Mr. Cherkin received 30 Emmy Award nominations and received a total of seven Regional Emmy Awards for his work in New York (WWOR-TV) and FOX-Philadelphia.

Throughout his career, Mr. Cherkin has always been devoted to the Greater Philadelphia region and to enhancing its quality of life. While his on-air efforts earned him numerous awards and recognition, Mr. Cherkin’s work in the community with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Police Athletic League, Jewish National Fund and many other charities and organizations, has been and remains even more fulfilling.

By 1998, Mr. Cherkin set his sights on attempting to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Greater Philadelphia. Although unsuccessful, the experience of creating a business plan and interacting with some of the wealthiest Philadephia-area businessmen and entrepreneurs added significantly to his resume and network of contacts and friends. That network continued to expand, in 2000 and 2002, when Carl was a candidate for State Representative in Bucks County, where he lived at the time. His ability to raise money and galvanize previously fragmented groups helped him nearly win a seat never even contested before, in a district in which he faced a (2-1) registration disadvantage.

Mr. Cherkin transitioned from broadcast journalist to business leader, at ATX Communications, where he has served first as Executive Relationship Manager and later added Director of Public Relations to his responsibilities, since 2000. Interacting with CEOs of corporations and executive directors of associations and presidents of chambers of commerce throughout the tri-state region, once again his sphere of influence and network of business associates continues to expand ever wider.

A product of Philadelphia public schools, Carl graduated Northeast High, where he was an All-Public athlete and Vice-President of the student senate. He played baseball at St. Joseph’s University before transferring and his collegiate career was cut short by the death of his father, midway through his junior year. Carl graduated Temple University with a B.A. in Communications.

Carl Cherkin is single and resides in Center City Philadelphia. He is the father of two daughters, Amanda and Caitlin.
