Chantal Westby was educated at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts located here in Philadelphia, PA. Born in France, she also earned a master’s degree from Parisian institution Haute Couture. Thirty percent of Philadelphia’s foreign born come from Europe. Many are Eastern Europeans that arrived after the end of the cold war.

Philadelphia has been a land of opportunity for European immigrants for hundreds of years. Europeans were the first to arrive, fleeing religious persecution and seeking the economic opportunity of the new world. William Penn, Philadelphia's founder, was an immigrant from Great Britain, and envisioned the city as a haven of religious tolerance, encouraging those persecuted in Europe to settle here.

Ukrainian Community In Philadelphia

On February 24th in the early hours Ukraine was invaded by Russia - an act of war not seen on European soil since 1945. Global Philadelphia Association recognizes the impact of the Ukrainian community in Philadelphia and stands in solidarity with the community during this time. We highlight the community organizations in our region and the 7 World Heritage sites designated within Ukraine.

Join us for a special FREE screening of “Mr. Jones”, courtesy of the Philadelphia Film Center. “Mr. Jones” is a biographical thriller film based on the true story of Welsh journalist Gareth Jones who in 1933 travels to the Soviet Union and uncovers the truth about the ‘Holodomor – the devastating famine in Ukraine caused by Stalin in which over 3.5 million Ukrainians were starved to death.

Scotland’s UNESCO Trail-A Tour Through Scotland’s Wonders

On October 15th of last year, the first UNESCO Trail was launched to digitally connect thirteen UNESCO-designated places. Amongst these thirteen, biospheres, global geoparks, and creative cities were included along with six World Heritage Sites. Scottish Parliament member Neil Gray began a fascinating virtual conference by celebrating this achievement and thanking the staff of all six of Scotland’s WHS that would be presenting.
