One Book, One Philadelphia Full Calendar and Resource Guide

The Free Library's One Book, One Philadelphia series for 2012 highlights a stirring collection of essays by Edwidge Danticat, Create Dangerously: The Immigrant Artist at Work. In this, the One Book, One Philadelphia 10th Anniversary year, the Free Library of Philadelphia will once again present a rich series of events to supplement the reading experience. This year will include programs highlighting the history, culture, and current challenges in Haiti, as well as exploring more universal themes of daring creativity, immigrant artists, immigration policy, journalistic responsibilities, and environmental issues. Attached is a detailed Calendar of Events which also includes a Resource Guide that contains supplemental reading suggestions and discussion questions for classrooms and book groups. The 2012 program runs from January 25 to March 17, 2012.

One Book, One Philadelphia is a joint project of the Mayor's Office and the Free Library of Philadelphia that promotes reading, literacy, library use, and community building by motivating tens of thousands of people to read an annual featured selection.

In order to provide a complete reading experience for Philadelphians of all ages, One Book will also feature the teen companion book A Taste of Salt: A Story of Modern Haiti by Frances Temple, as well as Running the Road to ABC by Denizé Lauture for young children.
