The Philadelphia Bar Association's Lawyer Referral and Information Service Has a Global Reach

The Philadelphia Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) is a local service with globally diverse consumers.  LRIS attorneys speak languages other than English and are available to help not only all residents of greater Philadelphia with their legal needs, but those from outside the area who have legal needs in Philadelphia as well.

LRIS currently has attorneys who speak 17 languages including Spanish, Russian, German, French and Mandarin.  LRIS continues to actively seek attorneys who are fluent in a variety of languages other than English in order to better serve our constituency.

The Philadelphia Bar Association's LRIS is one of the oldest legal referral services in the United States, providing referrals to attorneys and direction to more than one million people in the Philadelphia area for almost 70 years.  Founded in 1948, LRIS is a resource for all those with legal needs in the Philadelphia region looking to hire an attorney to help them.   

Bar Association staff matches callers with an attorney who practices in the area(s) of the law in which the caller needs legal help.  LRIS attorneys provide representation in immigration matters, estate planning, family law, and business transactions, among others.  All LRIS attorneys are thoroughly screened prior to being accepted to the service.  They must be in good standing with the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Lawyers Fund for Client Security, maintain professional liability insurance, and have met the necessary experience requirements where appropriate.

There is no cost to obtain a referral to an attorney through LRIS.  In matters such as automobile accidents, slip and fall, medical negligence, defective products, construction accidents, workers' compensation, and other personal injury claims, the initial consultation is free and the case will typically be handled as a contingent fee matter.
