UPenn Offers Professional Development Program "Engaging with World Heritage"

Phuong Nguyen, for GPA -- From July 13 to 17, the University of Pennsylvania is offering an exclusive Summer Institute Professional Development Program titled "Transnational Experiences: Engaging with World Heritage."

The program is focused on providing educators with a better understanding of the increasing importance of world regions in K-12 education and equipping them with new tools to connect Greater Philadelphia’s classrooms to the world.

It has been designed to incorporate diversified learning experiences. Participants will attend multiple feature presentations by Penn faculty and area professionals, as well as regional and international performances. One of the unique features of the program is the opportunity to have first-hand experiences with global aspects of the region, through field trips.

The Summer Institute program is also a great opportunity for educators to contribute to Project World Heritage City, an on-going effort by the Global Philadelphia Association and multiple international organizations in the area to obtain the designation for the City of Philadelphia as a “World Heritage City.” Participants will be actively involved in the process, preparing for lessons and experiential activities in their classes.

These resources and materials will culminate in the form of a World Heritage Tool Kit, to be unveiled during the 60-day GlobalPhilly2015 Expo.

The program is sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania's South Asia Center, Middle East Center, Africa Center, Center for East Asian Studies, American Center for Mongolian Studies, Graduate School of Education, Perry World House, the Mayor's Office and the Global Philadelphia Association.
