On Friday, June 2, GPA visited the new Barnes Foundation for an evening of music, libation and art. From the outside to the interior, the building is an impressive flow of clean lines, water, marble and space. The transition yields to rooms filled with art, displayed in the exact same pattern as they were in Merion, the original museum site. The collection has its place in history and in the world. The Keepers Project is a West Philadelphia community-based dance theater project for people 65 years of age and older of all skill levels and ethnicities. The dance theater company examines stories of family roots and history. Workshops will take place monthly from July 2012 through March 2013. On May 16th, 2012, Philadelphia Councilman David Oh hosted a day-long visit to Philadelphia for Mayor Young-gil Song of Incheon, South Korea, along with fourteen other delegates from South Korea. “I was very excited and pleased to host the Mayor of Incheon and the Korean delegation where I had the opportunity to showcase some of what Philadelphia has to offer” said Councilman Oh. The visit is part of an ongoing initiative by Councilman Oh to raise the international profile of Philadelphia to attract international employers and investors to create new jobs in the city.

On June 3, visitors walked through an arch and were transported nearly 6,000 miles away from Merion and into a Shuk (Market) of Old Jerusalem without ever having to set foot on an airplane. Adath Israel’s Israeli Affairs Committee, in conjunction with Nefesh B’ Nefesh, sponsored the reproduction of an authentic Israeli marketplace, recreating the sights, sounds, fragrances, and flavors of Old Jerusalem. The lively, family-oriented atmosphere was open to the community to enjoy and learn more about Israeli and Jewish Culture.
