CBS News -- QVC Inc., the television and online shopping giant headquartered in West Chester, PA, is expanding into China. QVC said last week that it has agreed to form a joint venture with China's government-owned radio, China National Radio, to operate a retailing business in China through CNR Mall TV, a shopping television channel with an associated website. The joint venture, known as CNR Home Shopping Co. Ltd., will be headquartered in Beijing.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce names CETRA, a GPA Member, one of seven national finalists for the 2012 DREAM BIG Small Business of the Year Award, sponsored by Sam’s Club®. According to this Award, CETRA Language Solutions represents the strongest small business of the entire Great Lakes Region. CETRA will be honored during America’s Small Business Summit, May 21–23, in Washington, D.C., where a national winner will be announced and will receive a $10,000 cash prize, courtesy of the U.S. Chamber.

On Sunday, March 4, Global Philadelphia Association attended Le Souk, an evening of food, conversation, and cultural exchange featuring Al-Bustan Music Ensemble and sponsored by Crossroads Music and International House Philadelphia. Guests were invited to enter new lands, break bread, and enjoy art together. The art we shared was melodic, certainly, but through Al-Bustan’s skillful presentation, it also became an art of relationship, of learning about one another and building bridges towards cultural understanding.

FiberPhiladelphia is an international biennial, regional festival for innovative fiber/textile art. The festival is a collaboration of artists, curators, educators, historians, galleries and institutions promoting the best in the expansive textile and fiber arts fields. Exhibitions are planned for 40 locations including major institutions and independent venues. They will include work by renowned international artists and a new generation of artists breaking into the field. Led by Penn Law Prof. Jacques deLisle, the Law School and Penn’s Center for East Asian Studies have launched a lecture series and seminar convening experts from academia, government, and NGOs in both China and the U.S. to address aspects of human rights in China.
